Les hématomes extra-duraux et sous-duraux aigus sont des lésions secondaires aux traumatismes crâniens. Ils peuvent rapidement occasionner une hypertension intracrânienne et conduire au décès. Ils constituent donc des urgences neurochirurgicales. L’hématome sous-dural chronique représente une pathologie fréquente et concerne surtout les sujets âgés. Le pronostic fonctionnel après évacuation d’un hématome extra-dural ou sous-dural chronique est bon mais reste plus réservé en cas d’hématome sous-dural aigu.

Acute extra- and subdural hematomas are lesions secondary to head trauma. They can rapidly lead to intracranial hypertension and death. They therefore constitute neurosurgical emergencies. Chronic subdural hematoma is a frequent pathology, particularly affecting the elderly. The functional prognosis after evacuation of an extra-dural or chronic subdural hematoma is good, but is less certain in the case of an acute subdural hematoma.
